Harriet Miller Driving Instructor – Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many lessons will I need?

A: The national pass rate is 42.5%. This is low because so many people put in for their test too early. Your instructor will advise when you will be ready, so that you can book a test in advance & work up to that day. Remember also that:

  1. Everybody learns at different stages. Some people learn faster than others.
  2. The amount of practice you obtain is also a key ingredient.
  3. It stands to reason that the more lessons you have, the more practise you get.

Q: How many hours of lessons do you advise?

A: I offer 1 hour. 1.5 hours and 2 hour lessons and would recommend an average of 2 hours a week but this obviously depends upon your own personal circumstances with work/other commitments and financing lessons.

Q: Will you offer me a mock test?

A: Yes. I always give a mock test at an appropriate time prior to your official practical driving test as this gives you a firm indication of exactly what it feels like to be in a ‘test’ situation and helps to highlight any areas which may need a little more attention.

Q. Will I have to share lessons?

A: No, there will never be another pupil in the car. Lessons are always taught on a ONE to ONE basis.

Q: Will I always be picked up in the same place?

A: With prior arrangement I will collect you from another address.

Q: What happens if I am very nervous?

A: 99% of pupils are nervous when they first start to drive. I am very patient and will encourage you, build your confidence and as you progress you will become a safe and confident driver.

Q: Do you offer Refresher Courses?

A: Yes. I offer Refresher Courses and will tailor these to the individual covering the areas where confidence is lacking.

Q: I hold an International Driving Licence. Is it valid in the UK and if not what do I need to do to get a UK Driving Licence?

A: Have a look on the DVLA website which will have all the information you need. If you are still not sure, ring us & we will be able to advise you.

Q: Do I book my own theory & practical tests?

A: We can book them for you, or give you full details of when and how to book yourself.

Q: Do you have lessons specifically for motorway driving?

A: Yes but obviously you need to have passed your driving test.

Q: I need to take an extended test can you help?

A: Yes the extended test is longer than a normal driving test, & the standard required to pass is higher. You can discuss this with me at any time.

Q: I have seen cheaper lessons with other driving schools, how do you justify your charges?

A: Yes, you can find lessons cheaper but I guarantee you ONE TO ONE FIRST CLASS DRIVING INSTRUCTION. In addition to this I will help you with your Theory Test. After your first 5 lessons you will receive a FREE CD to help with both Theory Test and Hazard Perception and A FREE COPY of the Highway Code. You will also have your own personalised progress book, so you can see exactly how many lessons you have had, what we have covered in lessons and what is left for you to cover before you take your Practical Test.
